Paying taxes on the loan

AI Highlights
  • - The staff say upfront payments are not required.
  • - A 250 upfront payment was requested before funds; 150 insurance paid, but no funds released.
Lending Club - Paying taxes on the loan

I've talked to several of Happen Bank representatives and they tell me "THATS NOT HOW WE DO BUSINESS". We don't ask for money up front.

So why is this guy from Lending Clubs unsecured loan department telling me that I have to pay 250 dollars before the money is released. I've paid for some insurance it coast 150 dollars up front and 45 minutes later I was supposed to be receiving my money is what some women from lending club told me.

I paid and received nothing but a phone call from that guy telling about state taxes it's the state. 250 dollars needs to be paid on my end.

User's recommendation: Everybody situation is different. So you make your own choices in life in business in your social affairs. Be careful and be sure you have a clear understanding before it's to late

Lending Club - I believe i was a victim a fraud...
Updated by user Apr 29, 2026

Dont trust a company that doesn't care enough about customers being scammed to even check in on the situation.

Original review Apr 14, 2026

I believe I was a victim of fraud through your company. I was contacted by an individual on the phone and sent documents to e-sign for a loan in the amount of $5,000.

I have the document saved on my phone. They actually got into my bank account, but luckily there was nothing in there but a dollar. Duh...

I'm trying to get a loan for a reason! But they have all my info, and I'm sure I'll be seeing fraudulent stuff on my credit report before too long.

Preferred solution: A real loan!

  • - System only allows one credit card payment and asks for $5,200.
  • - I want to pay four or five cards with that amount but don’t know how; please help.

I'm trying to finish a loan, and I'm trying to put in my payments to my credit cards, but it will only allow me to put in one credit card payment and keeps telling me to put $5,200 into that one card. I wanted to pay off four or five cards with that $5,200, and I'm not sure how to go about that.

It will not let me do it, and any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

They don't deserve a rating. They are nothing but thieves and liars who steal people's money

AI Highlights
  • - They charge for loan insurance without providing details.
  • - The reviewer alleges fraud and that the company is unhelpful.

They take money from people without any regrets. They say it's for insurance on your loan but give you no information about it.

They are nothing but thieves and liars stealing money from people who don't deserve it. Just trying to find some way to help my situation financially now because of them getting away with fraud my situation is far worse! Lending Club - Worst Experience of my life
Updated by user Sep 09, 2025

The issue has not been resolved. Every time I called them they tell me something different, I asked to speak to a manager and they hang up on me multiple times. So I am still out of almost $13,000.

Original review Aug 25, 2025
I opened a savings account with Lending Club, did a mobile deposit of $12,500, and they emailed me asking for proof of where I got the money, which I provided. They also asked for more proof of who I am, which I also provided.

The next day, they closed my account and kept my money. I have been calling them and got different answers all the time. Now they are saying that my life savings were considered abandoned funds and were sent to the State of Delaware for 3 years. I have never been there or lived there.

This has been the only communication with them. How can you just keep my money with no communication, no explanation? This has been one of the most stressful experiences of my life.

I want my money. It is not yours to keep; show me where I gave you the right to keep my money.

They did not keep your money. Transactions over ten thousand dollars face extra scrutiny.

(a federal requirement). It sounds like appropriate verification was not provided. The only reason Delaware is mentioned is that more than likely was the location of the source of your attempted deposit. You need to contact whoever issued the funds.

If you don’t, after three years it is considered abandoned and sent to the state treasury.

This bank did not “keep” your money. It was returned to the issuer and never deposited.

What are you talking about? When you go to a bank to open an account, no bank has the right to keep your money for 3 years, especially without telling you or give you any information. Show me that law.

I’m not with the bank. You reached a third party consumer forum.

The bank returned your attempted deposit back to whoever issued it.

They never had it. They rejected your attempt to deposit those funds.

No, a bank does not have the right to keep your money after closing your account; they are legally obligated to return any remaining funds to you, usually by check or transfer to another account. If LendingTree closed your account and kept your money without reason, they may have violated consumer protection laws, and you should immediately contact the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau to file a complaint.

It's also possible you're dealing with a scam. So you the bank is scamming.

You can’t read. You’re putting the cart before the horse.

The whole problem is the bank WOULD NOT authorize the deposit.

The bank closed the account based on an ATTEMPT to make a sketchy deposit. They never had the money.

If you’re going to be rude, do not respond to my complaints. Thank you

What are you talking about? It was a mobile deposit the check was cashed.

Lending Club released the funds after me making several complaints to multiple agencies, coincidentally. They persisted in saying that they attempted to transfer the funds. Yet, they haven't honored my request in providing me with proof of the transfers. Therefore, I requested an adjustment to the interest on the loan and a refund of the Origination fee.

Updated by user Jan 09, 2025

Absolutely not!

Original review updated Jan 06, 2025
I was initially denied, but I never received a letter of denial in the mail. Then, I received an email that I was approved on 12/18/24.

On 12/26/24, I contacted Lending Club to find out where my funds were. I was advised that they tried to send the funds to one of four bank accounts listed which I had requested to be removed in 2023. I updated the bank account to be deposited on 12/26/24. On 12/27/24, I called and spoke with an agent who informed me that my new account was approved and that my funds would be transferred within 1-4 working days.

On 12/31/24, I called and was informed that the funds were transferred to my new bank on 12/27/24; however, my bank rejected the transfer and provided Lending Club with an error message of R01. Lending Club never notified me by phone, text, email, or mail that my transfer wasn't successful. On 12/31/24, I called my Bank and was informed that there weren't any pending or prior transfers for me in the last three months. She requested a Federal Reference Number from The Lending Club.

I called back and requested all the FRNs from the alleged transfers to my banks. She stated that the back office didn't have an FRN and that someone would call me from their back office.
On 01/06/24, I hadn't received an email, call, or fund from Lending Club. From December 26, 2024, through 2023, I requested all my banking accounts to be removed from my account, except for the draft account. Even after my three previous accounts with Lending Club were closed, I was advised that my bank accounts couldn't be removed.

I was informed that I signed a contract stating that the banking information belonged to Lending Club. On December 26, 2024, I advised the representative that I spoke with that I would have to make a complaint with agencies, because I didn't want my bank accounts present on my account. I also advised the representative that one of the accounts had been closed for over four years. The next day, only the closed account was removed from my account, other than the Autopay account.
Lending Club hasn't met their contractual agreement with me by providing me with funding.

Their customer service is horrible! They also haven't provided me with an FRN to prove they attempted to transfer the funds to me. I took out the loan to pay off the interest debt on my credit cards.

While I await the funding, the interest rates are still accruing, and I was provided with a first payment date of 01/17/24.
And, of course Credit Karma won't allow me to post this review on their website. They're probably all in cahoots.
Loss:
$65
Cons:
  • Dont release funds
  • Horrible customer service
  • High origination fees

Preferred solution: Immediate funds, Origination fee refunded, the contract reworked to coincidence with the funds being released; and for Lending Club to my my credit card interest that's accrued while waiting on my funds from them.

User's recommendation: BEWARE! GET A LOAN FROM ANYONE BUT LENDING CLUB!
